Microcredentials and ECTS recognition: an innovative learning model at the heart of Green at You

At the core of Green at You lies an innovative training model based on microcredentials, offering participants flexible, transparent and meaningful recognition of the skills they acquire throughout the learning pathways.

Microcredentials make it possible to break learning into clearly defined and manageable units, allowing participants to progress step by step and gain recognition for specific competences. This approach significantly increases accessibility for people who may not be able to follow long or traditional education programmes, while ensuring that learning outcomes remain closely aligned with labour market and entrepreneurial needs linked to the green transition.

Across the project, a total of 950 microcredentials were issued, reflecting the wide range of skills acquired by participants through both green employment and green entrepreneurship pathways.

Recognising skills for employment and entrepreneurship

Participants following green employment pathways received microcredentials linked to:

  • Sustainability and the green transition

  • Sector-specific technical skills

  • Green competences

  • Digital competences

In total, 518 microcredentials were issued within the green employment pathways, supporting participants in strengthening their professional profiles in emerging green sectors.

Participants in green entrepreneurship pathways obtained microcredentials related to:

  • Green sector knowledge

  • Entrepreneurial skills and business development

  • Collaborative work through hackathons

  • Development of sustainable project ideas

These pathways led to the issuance of 432 microcredentials, recognising learning outcomes linked to innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable business creation.

Bridging non-formal learning and higher education: a key innovation of Green at You

One of the most distinctive and innovative elements of Green at You is the formal academic recognition of selected technical microcredentials through ECTS credits. This was made possible through close collaboration with Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, marking a significant step forward in the way short, non-formal training can connect with higher education.

Through this model, Green at You goes beyond traditional training programmes by building a real bridge between non-formal learning and the formal university system. Participants who complete selected technical pathways do not only acquire practical, job-oriented skills, but also receive learning recognition aligned with European higher education standards.

This approach is particularly innovative because it opens academic recognition to people who are often excluded from university education, including individuals in vulnerable situations or outside traditional learning pathways. By linking microcredentials to ECTS credits, Green at You increases the long-term value of training, enabling participants to:

  • Strengthen their professional profiles with academically recognised learning

  • Use their training as a potential stepping stone towards further education

  • Gain credentials that are understandable, transferable and valued across Europe

All microcredentials issued within Green at You are delivered as Europass Digital Credentials, ensuring that participants can securely store, share and present their achievements in a digital format that is transparent, verifiable and widely recognised across the European labour market.

By combining modular microcredentials, ECTS recognition and Europass digital certification, Green at You demonstrates how inclusive learning models can deliver both immediate employability outcomes and long-term educational opportunities. This innovative approach places learners at the centre of the green transition, supporting a future that is not only environmentally sustainable, but also socially fair and accessible.
